New Member System
Over the next several weeks, we will implement a new membership tracking and billing system. This system provides a lot of enhancements that we did not have prior, including:
- Centralized billing
- Member attendance and rank tracking
- Updated online portal for videos
- Scheduling of classes
- Centralized team communication
- Member App
- Sign-ups all done electronically
It will take me a couple of weeks to move everyone’s billing to the new system. In the coming days, we will have a tablet kiosk in the front for everyone to check in for classes and track information. You can also check in on the app. Once everything is set up, I will send out instructions on the new system.
Kids Curriculum
We are excited to announce that we are rolling out an official curriculum for our kid’s classes. This curriculum will outline what is required for each rank advancement- techniques and required waiting time as outlined by the International Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Federation.
We are releasing the White to Grey/White belt curriculum in the coming weeks. Every student that is a white belt will get a booklet with the techniques and there is an area to pass off the technique as proof of knowing it. Everyone will get one booklet, and it is expected that each student leverages this booklet to study and pass off the requirement for each advancement. Advancement will be awarded after passing off each listed requirement. Thus, we are helping put you and your children in charge of when an advancement is earned. If a booklet is lost, a replacement can be purchased for $10.
Shortly after, we will release the Grey/White to Grey belt curriculum, and so forth. I would like to release them all at the same time. However, it costs me $400 to print out the booklets for each belt. As such, I need to release the booklets in phases.
Besides the booklets, we have started recording videos of the techniques required for each advancement, so everyone will have multiple ways of studying our material.
Summer Months
As summer approaches, we know many of you have vacations and family plans coming up. We hope you enjoy your well-earned time off! That said, we’d like to kindly ask you to consider not pausing your membership during the summer months.
Our academy runs year-round, and while attendance naturally dips a bit in the summer, the operational costs remain the same. Every membership—whether you’re training every day or a little less during the summer—helps us keep the lights on, the mats clean, and the classes running with the quality you deserve.
We’ve worked hard to keep our membership prices as low and accessible as possible, especially compared to many other academies where the average price is $180 a month. Also, compared to other local programs, our prices are very low. For example, I pay $185 a month to have one of my children attend 3 dance classes a week. We keep our prices low because we’re committed to building a strong community and making BJJ available to everyone. But in order to continue offering high-quality instruction, a welcoming space, and improvements to the gym, we rely on steady support from our members—especially during the slower months.
If you’re able to maintain your membership through the summer, even with limited training, it makes a tremendous difference for the health and sustainability of the academy. And remember, your membership ensures your spot is always here when you’re ready to return to regular training.
Thank you so much for being a part of our team and supporting the academy not just when it’s easy, but when it truly counts. We’re incredibly grateful to have you on the mats with us.
Sincerely
Eric Rivard
